One thing I really appreciate about the Internet and cell phones is how I can let a friend know I’m thinking about them within seconds. Texting is often my preferred technology medium for instantaneous messages, since obviously my cell phone is with me and theirs is with them. It’s like a brief and unexpected secret rendezvous.
Some worry that all this mediated communication between people in their relationships is going to make us bad at face-to-face interaction. But if circumstances force me and my closest friends to live far apart, technology and social media help greatly to bring us together.
I think it’s great. No, my generation and the one following should not lose any ability to write English properly.
